Moosonee man charged with arson

MOOSONEE - On Dec. 17, 2017 at 3:39 p.m., members of the Moosonee Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from the Ontario Northland Railway (ONR) reporting a structure fire in the remote community of Moose River Crossing. The community is located approximately 142 miles north of the town of Cochrane along the Ontario Northland rail line.  

OPP were able to access the community with the assistance of the ONR.

As a result of the investigation, Roy McCauley, 64, of Moosonee, Ont. has been charged with:  

  • Arson - damage to property, contrary to section 434 of the Criminal Code (CC) year old male has been arrested and charged.
  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins later in December.  

Police are continuing their investigation and are requesting that if the public has any information about this crime that they contact the Moosonee OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122.  

Should they wish to remain anonymous, they may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where they may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
