Water quality could be affected in Schumacher and South Porcupine during scheduled water infrastructure maintenance activities, according to the City of Timmins.

In an advisory, the city said the work is slated to start today (Oct. 19).

According to the city, it could mean:

  • Intermittent loss of pressure for users on Goldmine Road, including the Newmont mine site, Delnite and Ankerite properties.
  • Low pressure and coloured water for all customers in Schumacher and on Goldmine Road.
  • Coloured water and changing water pressures for South Porcupine.
  • All users in the affected area could be without water for a few hours, and have coloured water or lower-than-normal water pressure.

Homeowners in that area may experience brown or rust-coloured water during the schedule water maintenance," reads the advisory.

"It is recommended not to drink or wash laundry with the discoloured water. While it is not harmful to your health, it can stain laundry. Should this occur, it is advised to turn on the cold water tap closest to the source (usually your laundry tub tap) and let it run for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the water colour has returned to normal."
