A proclamation was signed by Acting Mayor Mike Doody proclaming  The Lord's Kitchen Week. This group have been a staple in our community for many years. They are a volunteer organization that have made the difference between a full or empty belly for many people.

Below is a letter from the group of the amazing things they have done in the last year and the challenges they face in the coming year.

Can you answer and help in their challenge?

Thanksgiving is that time of year when we can reflect on our good fortune and at the same time extend a helping hand to the less fortunate and lonely in our community. This is why the Lord's Kitchen Society, a non-denominational and non-profit organization, calls upon you for help. In 2012 more than 150 dedicated volunteers offered a total 120,430 meals the needy at a cost of $77,078.

This represents an increase of some 6586 meals and a decrease of $1.51 in preparation costs when compared to our previous year. This was largely due to large donations of produce and smaller size servings to eliminate waste. With the poor growing weather this year, the donations of produce will be much less.

Every Thursday at the Costello Community Care Centre cooking teams under the guidance of Food Coordinator Heather Demers, prepare and serve a variety of nourishing meals to young and old, while keeping costs as low as possible. Consequently, the average cost of a warm meal served in 2012 was only $2.66, a decrease of $1.51 when compared to the average cost of a meal served in the previous year.

However,it is evident that this need for both food and companionship continues to be a need in our community of Timmins. It is for this reason that we reach out to you during our only fund raising campaign of this year.

We hope that we can count on your generous support!
