A sweet campaign is helping fill bellies.

The $37,991 raised through the annual Smile Cookie campaign was donated to the Costello Community Care Centre and is helping with the efforts of the Lord's Kitchen. The donation is from the cookie sales at all the Tim Hortons locations in town.

Meals are served at 85 Spruce St. N. location twice a week. There's a hot meal on Thursday evening and Friday morning breakfast.

“We see anywhere from 170 to 200 people per meal,” said volunteer Heather Demers.

There are a number of ways for people to help out the organization.

Demers said there's "absolutely" a need for volunteers, especially people interested in putting together a cooking team.

“We’re in the kitchen on Thursdays during the day preparing the meal that’s being served that night. So if anybody would like to join any of the cooking teams, that would definitely be a benefit,” she said.

The volunteers usually cook the meals from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays, with the food being served up from 4-5:30 p.m.

Breakfast is cooking on Friday starting around 7 a.m. It's served from 8-9:30 a.m.
