It's time to get outside and enjoy winter!
Events this weekend are giving families a chance to have fun outside.
Here are some of the activities that are happening:
Down to Earth Day
Saturday, Feb. 24, 1 – 4 p.m.
Timmins Public Library
Presented by the Cochrane District Master Gardeners. Stop by to learn about caring for your soil, garden and community.
38th Annual Loppet Ski or Snowshoe
Saturday, Feb. 24, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Porcupine Ski Runners, 1875 Highway 101 E.
There is still time to register and hit the trails! Online registration closes at 10 p.m. tonight (Feb. 23) at 10 p.m. and can be done here.
Coldest Night of the Year
Saturday, Feb. 24
Starts and ends at the Lord’s Kitchen
This fundraiser for the Anti-Hunger Coalition Timmins is in town for the first time ever. Participants will be walking a 2, 5 or 10-kilometre route followed by a light meal.
Winter Hike
Sunday, Feb. 25, noon
Hersey Lake, Highway 655
Enjoy a guided winter ecology hike at the conservation area, which kicks off with a presentation from the Timmins Fur Council. Hosted by the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority and the Wintergreen Fund for Conservation, this is a chance to learn about how plants and animals have adapted to survive the harsh Northern Ontario winter. There will also be children’s activities, hot refreshments, and a warming tent. Learn more about the event and the free shuttle being offered here.
Monthly breakfast
Sunday, Feb. 25, 9 a.m. – noon
St. Anthony’s Church Hall, 274 Fifth Ave., Timmins
The Knights of Columbus Council 12859 is serving up breakfast! The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children five to 12 years, and children four and under eat free. Everyone is welcome.

Mountjoy Arena: Sunday, Feb. 25 2 – 3 p.m.
