Whether you want to lace up your skates and take a spin on the ice, catch a movie or check out the Christmas train, you can do it all in the Timmins area this weekend!

Ontario Northland Christmas Train
Saturday, Dec. 9, 6 p.m. in Matheson, Sunday, Dec. 10, 6 p.m. in Iroquois Falls.
Check out the brightly-decorated freight train as it rolls through Northeastern Ontario.
Cans Film Festival
Saturday, Dec. 9, 10 a.m.
Imagine Cinemas, 215 Cedar St. S.
Two cans of food is all you need to catch a holiday classic on the big screen. The non-perishable food items will be donated to the Timmins Food Bank. The movies being shown are Home Alone, or two animated Christmas classics (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town).
Hoe-Down for Epilepsy
Saturday, Dec. 9, 9 p.m.
The Victory Tavern, Cedar St. N.
There is a lot of fun packed into this fundraiser for the Timmins Seizure and Brain Injury Centre. The Mike Trudell band is playing, there are prizes for the best outfits, raffles, and more. Ed Geisler is even shaving off his beard at the event! It’s being organized by Jessica Palubiskie, who recently shared her story about having epilepsy.
Suminagashi workshop
Saturday, Dec. 9, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Timmins Public Library, 320 Second Ave.
Want to learn a new technique? This workshop is teaching people how do Japanese paper marbling. The cost is $10 and pre-registration by payment is required.
Canada 150 Skating Day
Sunday, Dec. 10, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Carlo Cattarello Arena (The Barn), 1 Golden Ave., South Porcupine
Lace up for this free public skate in celebration of Canada 150. There will be Canada 150 items to give away, along with a special surprise for the first 100 people. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Santa Letter Writing Station
Runs until Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Timmins Public Library and C.M. Shields Centennial Library
Look for the designated areas at the Timmins and South Porcupine library to color a card for Saint Nick.
