DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD ONTARIO NORTH EAST
District School Board Ontario North East trustees approved a 121.3-million dollar balanced budget at a special Board meeting on June 26.
“The period of austerity in education funding continues in Ontario. Along with the Ministry’s restraint measures, District School Board Ontario North East continues to face a decline in enrolment. However, despite this decline, administration will continue to maintain programs in 2014-2015,” says Superintendent of Business Pearl Fong-West.
Projected enrolment for 2014-2015 is 7294.77 – a decrease of 37% since the 1998-99 school year.
“We are committed to ensure that these students have access through innovation to these programs and that staff are provided with the necessary capacity building,” adds Fong-West.
The Operating Budget represents a compliant budget but not a balanced budget.
The total operating expense budget is $121,324,376 and includes $5,756,006 in amortization.
The total operating revenue budget is $120,796,020 thereby resulting in an in-year deficit of $528,356.
The Capital Budget for 2014-2015 has been calculated at $6,381,631.
