The province is invsting $461M to stabilize the Personal Support Worker (PSW) workforce with a temporary pay raise effective today, Ford announced.
PSWs working in long-term care; home and community care; and children, community and social services will receive a wage increase of $3/hour, while those working in hospitals will receive a wage increase of $2/hour.
These increases will be in effect until March 2021.
"PSWs and direct support workers care for some of our most vulnerable patients and have been critical in the fight against COVID-19," said Minister of Health Christine Elliott.
Premier Doug Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health; Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care; and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health, for today's announcement from Queen's Park.
The announcement is expected to begin at 1 p.m.
The announcement comes the day after the province released its COVID-19 modelling which forecasts up to 1,000 new cases per day in the first half of October.
