QUEEN’S PARK – The Auditor General’s finding that the Oakville gas plant cancellation will cost up to $810 million means that hydro bills of Ontarians will be driven up even further, an outraged Nipissing MPP and PC Finance Critic Vic Fedeli said today.

Today’s findings in the Auditor’s report push the cost of the Liberal gas plant scandal to more than $1 billion. “The Auditor confirmed today that the Liberals knew the enormous costs of the cancellation from the outset, and didn’t care what it cost Ontarians.  All they cared about was Liberal self-interest and saving seats to buy the 2011 election,” said Fedeli. “The Liberals could have cancelled this at next to no cost, but instead took the most heinous route possible, choosing the costliest site possible in order to benefit the developer.” The Auditor also confirmed that many key decisions made were directed by the government, not the Ontario Power Authority, Fedeli added. “There can be no doubt following the Auditor’s report that this cancellation was a political decision designed only to benefit the Liberals,” said Fedeli. “The Liberals have lied about this from the start, and absolutely knew they were lying,” Fedeli said. “The bottom line is the Liberal gas plant scandal is adding more hundreds of millions of dollars to Ontario hydro bills, which have already doubled under this Liberal government.”
