Dear Editor,

The 11th Annual Rotary Ribfest has once again come and gone but the lasting effects of this project will resonate throughout the community during the entire year.

The group is made up of 9 individuals that take pride in their community.

True to the end, representatives from the Father Costello Center, Timmins-Porcupine Rotary Club members and community supporters worked together to make our 11th year the most successful to date.

What made this event even more successful than the previous 10 others?

First, the committee needs to recognize the 100+ plus volunteers that engaged in thousands of hours or concession sales, inflatable supervision, setup and cleanup, security, parking, First Aid and ticket sales.

Second, we recognize the incredible support from the City of Timmins Mayor, CAO, Council, department heads, tourism Timmins and workers on site.

Infrastructure being key, and their experience with large scale events such as the Kayak challenge truly benefited our event.

Then of course, a special mention to our financial sponsors…Celebrate Canada, Goldcorp and OPG have supported us financially from the beginning.

All funds raised by the event, including the financial support are reinvested into our many projects.

Third, the in-kind or discounted services never go un-noticed.

It is clear that our costs are low and our ability to reinvest into our programs is possible in part due to these small to medium local businesses that offer us discounted products and services in an effort to support in their own way the community.

For a complete list of our sponsors, please visit our web and FB pages.

Not a single dollar raised from our events is wasted or lost.

Last but not least, thank you to our Ribbers and vendors that have accompanied us through the good years and the bad, have helped enhance our event by offering more variety and grown the footprint of our event.

In an effort to improve the family fun factor, we also moved to the park.

This was met with some controversy, however proved to be a wise decision.

Park or Parking lot?  That was the question…and the answer was clear.

A great park, near a river, accessible to all…  The recipe worked!

The Timmins-Porcupine Rotary Club and the steering committee would like to thank the local community and surrounding areas for supporting and taking part in the kick off to summer festival.

We understand that we are a cottage community.  We enjoy getting away.

We understand that you also prefer to commit to an event late in the game.

However, over the year, we now can affirm that you all save the date and help support local initiatives from your Timmins-Porcupine Rotary Club.

Please join us at our Rotary Days BBQ September 30, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hollinger Park in recognition of all the work and support that our sponsors and volunteers have given us over the course of this past year.
