Timmins will host its Second Annual Law Enforcement Torch Ride for Special Olympics on August 15 to 18.

This year, 22 motorcycle enthusiasts will meet at Boston Pizza on Riverside Drive on August 15 at noon and travel to Sudbury.

The Quality Inn and Suites in Sudbury has generously accommodated the group for the evening before they head toward Manitoulin Island where the Owen Sound Transportation Company will be chartering the group on the Chi-Cheemaun toward Tobermory.

The group continues their trip to Collingwood for the evening where Boston Pizza will host a welcoming dinner.

On the 17th the group will travel to North Bay for a nights rest, then back to Timmins.

The riders are expected to arrive in Timmins at Boston Pizza at 4 p.m.

Although there are 14 rides organized in Ontario the Northern Ride is the longest in the province.

To date the Law Enforcement Torch Ride has generated over $54,000 for our Provincial athletes.

The Law Enforcement Torch Ride is an extension of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics which is an event to help raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics.

People wishing to make a donation toward the Special Olympics can visit www.torchrideontario.com and click on the “Timmins Ride” to make a donation.

All money goes directly to the Special Olympics Ontario.

All of the riders that are participating were expected to make a donation and pay a registration fee and pay all of their own costs to participate.

The riders have generated over $10,000 in past years and our goal is to meet or exceed that this year.
