The Timmins Human Rights Wall of Fame is located at the Timmins Public Library.

Do you know a local champion for human rights?

Timmins Together has opened nominations for the Human Rights Wall of Fame and announced its plans for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD).

Candidates for the wall of fame are people who are leaders for human rights and/or anti-racism activities. The nominee must live in Timmins. The online application includes the full details of who qualifies for the honour. Last year's winners were doctors Louisa Marion-Bellemare and Julie Samson. Nominations are being accepted until March 29.

For IDERD on March 21, there is a virtual book reading in French and English at 1:45 p.m. at the Timmins Public Library. The book being read is Alexandra Penford's All are Welcome, which shows students how to celebrate their difference in an inclusive way.

Instead of the traditional Night of Applause, a symposium is being held at the museum on March 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The theme is Anti-discrimination: From awareness to action.

It's free to attend and open to community members. Registration will be opening soon.
