A Timmins festival is a finalist for a provincial tourism award.

The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) announced the finalists for the Tourism Industry Awards of Excellence today. The Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival is one of three finalists for the Tourism Event of the Year, with Blumination and Supercrawl being the other two.

The award is for a festival or event showing industry best practices and is open to a variety of different events.

According to TIAO, the finalists are chosen by independent committees of industry representatives.

The winners will be announced Oct. 30 at the Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence during the 2019 Ontario Tourism Summit at Blue Mountain Village Inn and Conference.

Along with the festival being a finalist, Tourism Timmins' Guy Lamarche will also be picking up some hardware at the summit.

It was recently announced that Lamarche is one of two recipients of the 2019 Tourism Industry Award of Excellence's Lifetime Achievement Award. He is being honoured alongside Ian McMillan, who is currently the international marketing specialist for Destination Northern Ontario.

Lamarche and McMillan will be honoured at a special Lifetime Achievement Award lunch during the summit.
