Kapuskasing man charged with impaired after driving wrong way on highway near Bracebridge

BRACEBRIDGE - The Ontario Provincial Police of Bracebridge detachment have charged a male with impaired driving, after he was driving the wrong way on Highway 11.

On Nov. 20, 2018 at approximately 7:06 p.m., the OPP received a call for a vehicle being driven southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 11. Bracebridge OPP officers were able to stop the vehicle near Highway 117, still being driven the wrong way on the highway. The driver of the vehicle was immediately arrested for his driving. After further investigation, the male driver was found to be impaired by alcohol.

Daniel Walker a 55-year-old male from Kapuskasing has been charged with:

  • CC 253(1)(b) Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood
  • CC 253(1)(a) Driving while ability impaired - motor vehicle (alcohol)
  • CC 249(1)(a) Dangerous operation of motor vehicle

Walker's driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days under the administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS) and he will appear in court on Dec. 11, 2018 to answer to his charges.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
