Joint initiative looks to increase safety on the highways

KAPUSKASING - On Dec. 12, 2017 and Dec. 13, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF) conducted traffic safety initiatives on Highway 11 in the Town of Cochrane and in the Town of Hearst.

The focus of Operation Safe Trucking is to inspect commercial motor vehicles (CMV) and documentation in order to increase safety on our highways.

The joint traffic initiative in Cochrane resulted in the following:

  • 62 CMV stops
  • 9 Provincial Offences

Hearst had the following results:

  • 54 CMV stops
  • 10 Provincial Offences

Several warnings were given and various types of inspections were completed.

The motoring public can expect several R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check points at various times throughout the day during this holiday season and the OPP is reminding everyone to drive responsibly.
