A jam-packed weekend of fun for all ages is set South Porcupine.
The 44th annual winter carnival is running Feb. 7 - 9.
Here's what you need to know:
Magic Show
The festivities kick off with the opening ceremony Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at Roland Michener Secondary School. There will be a free magic show by Magic of Christofe. Saturday, the Magic of Christofe will be at Northern College Room H116 (use the east parking lot) at 7 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults or free for kids 16 years and under.
Fuel Up
The Whitney Volunteer Firefighters are serving up breakfast at the Whitney Fire Station/Cochrane District EMS at Northern College from 8 a.m. - noon Saturday, Feb. 8. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
Magical Winter Stories
Stop by the C.M Shields Centennial Library, 99 Bloor St., for free stories and refreshments Saturday, Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Escape From Reality
The business located at 90 Golden Ave. has free events planned. There is a family scavenger hunt Saturday and Sunday. You can pick up a map anytime during regular business hours. Once you've completed the hunt, bring back the answer to the store. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, you can also learn how to play Magic: The Gathering, an event for ages 10 and up.
Print A Shirt
Stop by Skoser Merch, 57 Main St., to print your own 2020 South Porcupine t-shirt Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. It's for all ages. There will be free tattoos for kids, hot chocolate and coffee.
Inflatables and Vendor Show
There will be inflatables in both gyms at Roland Michener Secondary School, as well as a vendor show. It runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Family Games
Free events are being offered at the Scout Hall, 78 Legion Dr. Saturday and Sunday from noon - 4 p.m. There will be crazy canuck skiing, birdseed snow angels, nail drive, log sawing, snow painting, and children's games inside. There is an outdoor champion contest open to people 18 years and older Saturday at noon. From 3 - 4 p.m. Saturday there is story telling by Markus from Escape From Reality.
Penny Bingo
Penny Bingo and a penny sale is setting up at Maurice Landry Community Centre Saturday and Sunday from noon - 4 p.m.
Seniors' Games
St. Paul's Anglican Church is offering games for people 55 years and better Saturday at 1:30 p.m. There will be cards, board games, crokinole, domino's. Refreshments are a silver donation.
Live entertainment
Jake's is serving up music all weekend. Friday night the 287's are playing, with Paul Sebalj providing the entertainment Saturday. Both shows start at 9:30 p.m.
Take a Swing
Stop by Northern Swing, which runs out of Jake's on Bruce Avenue downtown South Porcupine, to try the golf simulator from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. There will be a longest drive and closest to the pin challenge. There are five divisions and it's open for people ages 10 and up. The cost is a non-perishable food item for the South Porcupine Food Bank or $2.
Horse and Wagon Rides
There are free horse and wagon rides Sunday from noon - 4 p.m. at the Scout Hall
Chainsaw Carving Demos
Wolf Creek Carving will be at the Scout Hall both days to show how make chainsaw carvings, which will also be for sale.
Colourful Carnival Creations
Creat a unique 3D masterpiece with a wide variety of art mediums under the gentle guidance of Cathy Cribbs. It's best for children 6 years and up. Pre-registration is required at Color Magic. It runs Sunday from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the Scout Hall.
Closing Ceremonies
Find out who won the penny tables, window and sculpture contests, and more. It's happening at the Maurice Landry Community Centre Sunday at 4 p.m.
Fireworks
The carnival fireworks will be set off Sunday a 7 p.m.
