There's reason to celebrate downtown Timmins.

Downtown Timmins week is being held Monday, Nov. 23 to Saturday, Nov. 28.

The event is organized by the Business Improvement Association (BIA). Here's a look at what's happening:

Monday, Nov. 23

The BIA's Buy-In and Win contest launches. People visiting a Downtown Timmins BIA member can fill in a ballot to win $1,500 in gift certificates to use at member businesses.

Tuesday, Nov. 24

Judges will walk to the downtown core to name the winners of the Christmas Festival of Lights Window Decorating Contest. There are prizes for the best retail, best professional service and best hospitality windows.

Wednesday, Nov. 25

The Downtown Timmins AGM and Awards are being held on Zoom. The categories include the Alexander Tichinoff Professional Excellence Award, Business Community Supporter Award, Community Partners Award, Remi Boileu "Very Bst" Award, Downton Timmins Leadership Award, and the Lewis P. Currie Award.

Thursday, Nov. 26

The Walk Down Memory Lane initiative launches. For it, empty storefront windows will have historic photos and fun facts to attract people downtown. It will be expanded semi-annually.

Saturday, Nov. 28

The Holiday Pop-Up Show and Santa's Workshop are starting. The vendors will be in the former Seymour's location on Third Avenue. Santa's Workshop is across the street in Palace Plaza next to Alfie's Cigar Store. Santa Claus will be on-hand for socially-distance visits. All children will receive a free gift. Santa's Workshop is also open Dec. 5, Dec. 12, and Dec. 19. The hours are noon to 2 p.m.
