Iroquois Falls driver charged with impaired

KIRKLAND LAKE - On June 18, 2019 at 9:44 p.m., the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a traffic complaint on Highway 11 in Marquis Township, Ont.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and the investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

As a result, Mario Linklater, 39 years old of Iroquois Falls, Ont., was charged with the following:

  • operation while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

He was served a 90 day administrative driver licence suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 18, 2019 in Kirkland Lake.

The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Remember any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one's ability to drive.
