Identity of victim released in homicide investigation

The Timmins Police Service is in receipt of conclusive findings from the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto in regards to its investigation into an occurrence where human remains were located at the scene of a vehicle fire on Brundy Lane in Schumacher on May 18.

Based upon comprehensive post-mortem examinations which have taken place in Toronto, the identity of the deceased person has been confirmed.

The human remains of the person found in the vehicle are confirmed to be those of: - Kirk Thurston Jr., 23, of Schumacher.

The Timmins Police Service continues to deploy officers from its Criminal Investigations Division in conjunction with the Office of the Regional Coroner in regards to this matter.

The Timmins Police Service disclosed these results to the surviving members of the Thurston family prior to making these results a matter of public record.

On their behalf, the Timmins Police Service is asking the general public to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

As previously disclosed, Richard Green, 41 of Timmins has been arrested and charged in relation to this homicide and remains in custody awaiting trial.
