Mayor Steven Black and officials from Glencore–Kidd Operations attended Timmins and District Hospital for the official opening of the newly upgraded x-ray area in the John P. Larche Medical Imaging & Cardiopulmonary Department on Friday, September 30th, 2016.

Joining Mayor Black for the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Glencore–Kidd Operations representatives Steve Badenhorst, General Manager; Jim Belanger, Manager, Human Resources; Carole Belanger, Communications & Community Relations Coordinator; and David Yaschyshyn, Manager, Environment. Representing Timmins and District Hospital at the event were Dr. Maggie Matear, Board Chair, Blaise MacNeil, President & CEO and Brian Bennetts, CFO; from the John P. Larche Medical Imaging & Cardiopulmonary Department Dr. Tim Richardson, Medical Director and Guy Guindon, Manager; and Janna Burke, Executive Director, TADH Foundation. Mrs. Dolores Larche was also in attendance for the celebration.

“Glencore-Kidd Operations is pleased to have contributed towards ensuring access to vital diagnostic imagery for the physicians, specialists, and nearly 40,000 patients who rely on these services annually,” said Steve Badenhorst, General Manager, Glencore-Kidd Operations. “This corporate donation will also contribute to the hospital’s ability to continue recruiting and retaining much-needed health care professionals, as well as to help the City of Timmins establish itself as a regional hub for leading-edge healthcare delivery,” continued Mr. Badenhorst.

“We are pleased to see this project come to fruition as we begin to wrap up the Foundation’s 2013-2016 Capital Campaign - Building for Tomorrow’s Healthcare Today,” stated Janna Burke, Executive Director, TADH Foundation. “Glencore – Kidd Operations was the first mining company to step up to the plate to make their pledge of $1.5 million to the Foundation’s most ambitious capital campaign yet which was launched in May 2013,” added Burke.

“This funding has allowed us to expand and meet the growing needs of our patients and community,” said Guy Guindon, Manager, John P. Larche Medical Imaging & Cardiopulmonary Department, TADH. “Thanks to the $1.5 million the Foundation received through the Kidd Operations Community Partnership Program, we were able to purchase two new x-ray machines and renovate that section of our radiology department,” added Guindon.

Kidd Operations has shaped our community for over 50 years and it’s interesting to note that during the 1986 -1995 Campaign to build this hospital, Kidd donated $1.5 million dollars, the largest contributor during that time. Thirty years later, Glencore – Kidd Operations continues to lead in corporate social responsibility with their current donation through the Kidd Operations Community Partnership Program by building capacity and fulfilling the healthcare needs of our community.

About Timmins and District Hospital Foundation

From the James Bay coast to Engleheart, from Hearst to Kirkland Lake, Timmins and District Hospital is the beating heart of a vast, beautiful and vibrant region. We hold the well-being of over 115,000 people in our hands...and they, in turn, hold our fate in theirs.

As the largest hospital in Northeast Ontario, TADH is poised on the brink of a new era in healthcare for this region. To meet the growing and changing needs of the families we serve, the facilities and equipment of our hospital must be renewed. Not years from now, but now. Outdated, cramped, with an aging building and obsolete equipment, TADH is long past due for a revitalization that will enable us to take our District’s healthcare into the future.
