Hundreds of Thousands of Volunteer Hours Credited for $1¼ Million Total

Timmins – Representatives from the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation attended the hospital Auxiliary’s annual Christmas party in the TADH Lecture Theatre on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 1:00 pm for a cheque presentation.

Presenting the $86,000 gift cheque on behalf of the TADH Auxiliary were Debbie Dupuis, Gift Shop Purchaser and Lorraine Taylor, Knitting Coordinator. Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Timmins and District Hospital were Gary Marshall, Registered Orthopaedic Technician, Fracture Clinic and Janna Cook, Executive Director, TADH Foundation.

“We are thrilled to be accepting this most generous gift from our Hospital Auxiliary,” stated Janna Cook, TADH Foundation Executive Director. “What’s even more exciting is the fact that this donation will bring their cumulative total donations to a most-impressive $1,250,000.00.” added Cook.

This $86,000 contribution to the Foundation’s 2013-2016 Capital Campaign will go toward the purchase of urgently needed medical equipment including stretchers, curtains, a cast saw and cart for the fracture clinic; CO2 monitor for the GI endoscopy department; an ultrasound upgrade and two pairs of stirrup fins for the surgical department; and a colon insufflator for diagnostic imaging.

“The fracture clinic will be moved to a new and more efficient space to allow us to provide better care to our patients from across the North,” said Gary Marshall, Registered Orthopaedic Technician, TADH Fracture Clinic. “It is thanks to the hard work and generosity of our hospital’s auxiliary that we will have a new cast saw, cast cart and stretchers to replace our outdated equipment,” added Marshall.

“We meet many people from Timmins and surrounding communities,” stated Nancy Pandolfi, Auxiliary President. “We want to ensure that the best medical equipment is available for everyone who comes through our doors,” added Pandolfi.

“Life’s moments happen in our hospital and we see first hand the impact the dollars we raise make,” said Jackie Schizkoske, Auxiliary Treasurer. “The TADH Auxiliary are committed to building for tomorrow’s healthcare today,” added Schizkoske.

The Timmins and District Hospital Auxiliary is a volunteer organization that raises much-needed funds for the local hospital. Funds are raised through the gift shop, tuck wagon, book and knitting sales, Nevada ticket sales, raffles, bazaars and bake sales. There are no paid employees at the hospital gift shop. It is one hundred percent volunteer-driven and run by 115 active and non-active volunteers who logged in more than 11,000 volunteer hours in 2013 in the gift shop, hospital promenade and behind the scenes.

More than 50 auxiliary volunteers were in attendance for today’s Christmas luncheon including Mary Jordon, one of the organization’s longest-standing members. Mrs. Jordon, age 95, has been volunteering with hospital Auxiliary for over 50 years having started her ‘career’ at St- Mary’s General Hospital. She was the recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in December 2012.
