Hospital $5K closer to getting new mammography unit

The campign for a new mammography unit has recieve a big boost. 

Ontario Power Generation has donated $5,000 to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation fundraising campaign. 

The Timmins hospital is an accredited Breast Assessment Centre affiliated with Cancer Ontario. 

“At OPG, health and safety remains our number one value, and that includes the health and well-being of our community and residents,” said Kate Cantin, OPG stakeholder relations advisor, in a news release. “Through our Corporate Citizenship Program, we are so grateful for the opportunity to support the Timmins and District Hospital in their efforts to continuously improve healthcare, in particular women’s health, for the entire region.”

According to Guy Guindon,manager of the John P. Larche Medical Imaging Department, the new system will operate for eight to 10 years.

"We will perform around 5,000 mammography exams per year. Timmins is the only average and high risk mammography centre in our area, the next closest is in Sudbury," he said.
