This week city council unanimously passed a resolution which will see the Engineering and Human Resources building get a much needed facelift.

FBMC Inc, a local contractor, will perform exterior repairs and parging to the historic building at the north west corner of Pine Street and Algonquin Boulevard.

The repairs will cost $126,713 plus HST. On Sept. 2, the city received two tenders for the project. The other tender was quoted at $284,000 plus HST. The city's estimate as identified in the 2016 Capital Budget was $150,000.

"This is one of the older buildings that we have in town. I don't quite know the date on it, but it is an historical building and quite unique, so I'm glad to see we're doing the much needed renovations on this particular building" said Councillor Noella Rinaldo at the Sept.19 meeting.

The building's exterior facade has come away from the building, which has led to water damage to portions the interior. Cracked blocks and joints will need to be repointed and repaired.

It is the former home of the Timmins Public Library, and is connected to city hall via a second-floor covered walkway.
