The City of Timmins has launched a new community cleanup initiative.

The event runs from May 25 to May 30, which is the same week residential tipping fees are waived at the Deloro Landfill in lieu of a curbside spring pickup.

“I’ve taken part in community cleanups for many years where neighbours join together to tackle the litter and waste that can accumulate along our roads, ditches, and sidewalks through the winter,” said Mayor George Pirie in a news release.

“This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re asking individual households to consider picking up litter while they are outside going for a walk. If every household contributed to collecting just one small bag of trash found around their neighbourhood, imagine how much cleaner our City would be.

For a chance to win the Golden Trash Bin trophy, submit before and after photos of your cleanup.

A logo design contest is also being held.

"The city is looking for a  Community Cleanup logo that embraces the idea of working together for a cleaner and more litter-free city. The person with the winning logo will receive a new Kitchen Collector to go even greener in their own backyard," reads the news release.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 21. Email your entry to [email protected].
