Here's what's on tap for the South Porcupine Winter Carnival

As usual, it'll end with a fireworks show Sunday night

An annual tradition is taking over South Porcupine this weekend. 

The action kicks off tonight (Friday, Feb. 8) with the opening ceremonies and crowning of the prince and princess at Roland Michener Secondary School at 6 p.m. 

A free Zumba class with Katiee Last is being held at the South Porcupine Legion at 6:30 p.m., and the Northern College Quills Pub Lounge is also open from 6 - 10 p.m. for pool, darts, ping pong and card games. It's an age of majority event. 

Saturday, Feb. 9

A full day of activities is planned for Saturday. 

There are giant board games at the library, 99 Bloor Ave., from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

At Roland Michener, there is a craft and vendor sale and free inflatables from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

Down the street, the Porcupine Horticultural Society is serving up a chili lunch at St. Paul's Anglican Church starting at 11 a.m. The cost is $5 per person. Starting at 1:30 p.m., there are senior games such as cards, board games, crokinole, and dominos, at the church

At the Scout Hall, there are indoor and outdoor children's activities from noon to 4 p.m.

Penny Bingo and a penny sale are at Maurice Londry Community Centre from noon to 4 p.m. as well. 

Art and Soul Studio in the Porcupine Mall is offering a kids' open studio from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The cost is $2 per child. At 2 p.m. there is a free Generation Pound demo.

Get ready to be awed at the Magic of Christof show at Northern College starting at 7 p.m. It's $5 for adults and free for kids under 16 years. People are asked to use the east parking lot. 

Sunday, Feb. 10

The craft and vendor sale, and inflatables will be set up at the high school from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

At the Scout Hall on Legion Drive, the children's activities will be set up from noon to 4 p.m. Penny Bingo and the penny sale also runs from noon to 4 p.m. at the Maurice Londry Community Centre. 

The closing ceremonies are at 4 p.m. at Maurice Londry. This is when the penny table winners will be announced, adn the snow sculpture/snowmen awards will be handed out. 

As usual, the carnival will end with a bang. Fireworks will be set off behind Northern College at 7 p.m.
