Here's the COVID-19 situation in Timmins and area today

Three new cases and no recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today.

The two new cases are in Timmins. Another case is in the James Bay area.

The health unit also reported that two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Timmins screened positive for the B1.617.2 variant, also known as the Delta variant. There are now 44 cases with the Delta variant confirmed in the PHU region.

To date, there have been 2,147 confirmed cases of the virus. Of the confirmed cases, 2,099 are recovered and 31 people have died. There are 17 known active cases — four in Timmins and 13 in the James Bay area.

According to the health unit, 49,365 people have been vaccinated so far. There have been 90,558 doses of the vaccines administered.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
