Health unit reports 160th COVID-19 case

One new COVID-19 case is being reported in Timmins.

The person is in self-isolation and the exposure is under investigation, according to the Porcupine Health Unit. 

COVID-19 outbreak was declared at Glencore Kidd Operations today after two mine employees, one from the local area and one from another health unit area, tested positive. The health unit did not indicate if this new case is associated with the outbreak.

"Public health will notify all close contacts directly. If you are not contacted by public health, you are not considered a close contact. Regardless of an announcement of a case, everyone is reminded to stay home if they have symptoms and get tested," reads the notice.

To date, there have been 160 confirmed cases of the virus in total since the start of the pandemic. There are 31 known active cases — 23 in Timmins, two in Fort Albany, four in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, and Fauquier-Strickland, and two out of region..

Of the total cases in the health unit, 90 have been in Timmins.
