NEWS RELEASE

DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD ONTARIO NORTH EAST

************************
District School Board Ontario North East is set to begin an Accommodation Review to address declining enrolment at Haileybury Public School, and has approved the formation of an Accommodation Review Committee (ARC).

The motion was passed at Tuesday night’s regular meeting of the Board.

Built in 1925, the school had an enrolment of 120 students in 2014.

With the recent relocation of Grade 7 and 8 students to Timiskaming District Secondary School, the population of the school has declined to 78.

The school has the capacity to hold 230 students.

Under the new Accommodation Review process, the Board received a staff report recommending the closure of Haileybury Public and the creation of a new school in Timiskaming Shores.

In keeping with the new process, community partners are receiving notice that the review has begun.

The process is designed to be fair and open, and will include representation from both staff and parent communities.

All meetings of the ARC will be open to the public, and dates will be posted in advance on the Board’s website www.dsb1.ca.
