Gymnasts could soon be tumbling at the Confederation again.

Staff is recommending council renew a lease agreement with Stella Nova Gymnastics at the Confederation Recreation Complex.

The item is on the agenda for the Dec. 11 meeting.

Along with the report, reps from Stella Nova are slated to give a presentation about the need for the lease extension.

The club has operated since 2010 and closed in March of this year.

At that time, a statement from the group said the board made the decision because of the ongoing challenges operating a not-for-profit organization.

According to this week’s presentation, the goal is to start running again in January 2019.

The presentation notes that the club had key staff turnover in 2017, along with increasing training costs, salary, insurance and rental fees.

With help from the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, it says they have made “significant changes to its governance structure”.

The lease renewal would be for two years, with a third-year extension option.

In the first year, the monthly rent would be $2,475, and in year two it’s $2,600.

The agreement also allows the club to use the city-owned gymnastics equipment.

“It is also worth mentioning that the centre is in the process of acquiring a notable amount of update gymnastics equipment (through external funding) which will be added to the city’s inventory,” reads the report.

The council meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
