A ground search Friday night ended with a positive outcome for members of the Timmins Police Emergency Response Team ( ERT ).

At approximately 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon, police received a call regarding an Aboriginal female who was possibly lost in a wooded area behind a native hostel on Airport Road. Following an investigation, the ERT was deployed to the area and a ground search was commenced, which included the Ontario Provincial Police’s K-9 unit and Emergency Medical Services special operations medics.

Timmins Porcupine Search and Rescue (TPSAR) volunteers were also on standby as police searched the area where the person was last seen. With temperatures dropping and the reduction of daylight, time was a significant consideration for searchers.

The missing person was located approximately four hours later, in fair condition about 200 metres into the bush in a densely wooded area. She was provided treatment on scene by EMS members and transported to Timmins and District Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The Timmins Police Service would like to thank the OPP’s K-9 unit for their assistance, as well as Cochrane District EMS, and TPSAR volunteers.
