The following is the text of a statement issued by Glencore Canada Corp. regarding the recent announcement that 56 Kidd Mine employees will be laid off:
To ensure that we are able to maintain production through to our planned closure date of 2021, it is critical that we continue to manage our costs.
Unfortunately, for our Operations, this also entails reducing our workforce.
Of the 56 employees affected by this workforce adjustment, 30 have been offered early retirement while the remaining affected employees have been offered severance packages and transition support.
No further reductions are anticipated at this time, but we will continue to assess and review our business to remain competitive as we approach closure.
