Freezing rain warning in effect for:
    •    Little Abitibi - Kesagami Lake
    •    Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls

Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Periods of freezing rain will continue early this evening before changing to occasional rain as temperatures rise above freezing.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

    •    Kapuskasing - Hearst - Smooth Rock Falls

A long lasting period of freezing rain and ice pellets continuing into Thursday.

Freezing rain and ice pellets associated with a late season ice storm will continue today through Thursday afternoon. Ice pellets mixed with freezing rain and will change over completely to freezing rain tonight.

Snow and ice pellet accumulation will be variable across the region however 5 to 10 centimetres is likely. Freezing rain will change to rain through the day on Thursday as temperatures slowly rise above the zero degree mark.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and extremely hazardous. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice. Extended and widespread utility outages are possible. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
