An afternoon of family fun is taking place at Hollinger Park this weekend.

Timmins Community Park Association (TCPA) is putting on the free activities Saturday, Jan. 18 from noon to 4 p.m.

There are four backyard curling rinks, a sliding hill, and new firepit. You can also roast marshmallows, and there will be free hot chocolate.

Volunteers are crossing their fingers that the skating trail, which is being taken care of by the city, will be open in time.

City communications co-ordinator Heather Duhn said they are getting close to opening.

The crew has been watering the trail this week, and the watering truck was at the park this morning.

Once the skating trail is open, if you don't have skates the TCPA has been collecting donations for people to borrow.

So far they have about 40 pairs, and are looking for more figure skates or hockey skates in all sizes.

Donations can be dropped off at their trailer in Hollinger Park.
