With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees and limits continue to apply during license-free days

Each year Ontario holds two events for Canadian residents to fish without a mandatory fishing version outdoors card.

The first one is next weekend, Feb. 17 and 18 that starts at 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday.

Residents fishing during these time that do not possess the current Ontario Fishing License must follow the Conservation fishing license limits as stated in the Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary.

With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees and limits continue to apply during license-free days.

This is a great opportunity to spend time on the ice, along with sharing the beauty of the great outdoors with family members, a neighbour, friend/s which normally don't fish during the winter months or just introducing someone to their first time ice fishing.

A little reminder if you haven't already registered your child for the Timmins Fur Council Kids Fishing Derby on Feb. 19, you can still do so by contacting

Kaileigh Russell at [email protected]. This is a great event to introduce your child to for their first time ice fishing.
