Fraud investigation leads to charges for Timmins man

The Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service in regards to a theft of wallet from an unlocked car on Sept. 15. One of the credit cards in the stolen wallet was used to make a series of purchases at various retailers throughout the city of Timmins. Based on investigative measures undertaken by the Timmins Police Service, a suspect was identified.

The suspect was located early this morning in a residential area in the south side of Timmins. A Timmins Police Service officer recognized the male person as the suspect in the incidents involving the fraudulent use of a stolen credit card. The male suspect was approached by the police and is alleged to have provided a false name to the interviewing officer. The suspect was eventually arrested and taken into police custody. A search of the suspect upon arrest yielded the discovery of suspected methamphetamines and suspected oxycodone tablets on his person.

Garrett Rickard, 24, of Timmins, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of fraudulent use of credit card contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused remains in police custody while awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
