The City of Timmins has declared 80 Cedar St. S. as surplus land. The property, which used to house the Windsor Tavern before it burned down in 2013, is currently being used as a parking lot.

What was once the site of a local watering hole is going up for sale.

The property at 80 Cedar St. S. that was once the site of the Windsor Tavern has been declared surplus to the City of Timmins' needs and is being put up for sale. The building was destroyed by a fire in 2013.

"Currently (the) public have been utilizing the property for parking, but it’s not a municipal parking lot,” Cindy Welsh, Timmins manager of planning, told council at its March 21 meeting.

The city's community development committee has received two requests to buy the property, which is appraised at $53,000.

Coun. John Curley asked what the potential buyers want to use the property for.

So far, the requests have been to use the land as a parking lot, said Welsh. She also noted that the property is in the employment area and can be developed as a commercial building.

The property will be sold through the public tender process.
