Fonthill man faces dangerous driving charges after Matheson collision

MATHESON, ON - On Sept. 5, 2018 at approximately 5:12 p.m., the Matheson Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to investigate a collision involving two motor vehicles on Highway 11, south of Matheson, Ontario.

As a result of the collision five people were transported to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

The OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, on September 20, 2018 the OPP North East Region Crime Unit has arrested and charged Paul SCHAEFER, 64 years old, of Fonthill, Ontario with five counts of Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Cause Bodily Harm, contrary to section 249(3) of the Criminal Code.

He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins, Ontario on November 6, 2018.
