In response the heavy rainfall this week, a flood warning has been issued for the Mattagami River.

"The water levels on the Mattagami River are continuing to rise in response recent precipitation. Local gauges indicate that more than 120 mm of precipitation has fallen so far during this rain event," reads the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority (MRCA) advisory.

According to the MRCA, the extent of flooding is difficult to predict as it depends on weather. People living near the river are encouraged to monitor the conditions.

"Unsecured material and equipment should be removed from shorelines of area lakes and rivers as water elevations continue to rise. Parents are asked to let their children know about the dangers of playing in and around lakes, rivers and streams. Residents should also be prepared with a household emergency plan should a flood emergency be declared. An emergency preparedness guide is available from getprepared.ca," according to the MRCA.

The Timmins area was under a rainfall warning Tuesday and Wednesday.

An Environment Canada weather summary issued June 24 at 2 p.m. shows 93 mm of rain had been registered at the Timmins Airport. Data from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry notes it has documented 128 mm of rain.

The City of Timmins also sent out statement yesterday that they were receiving a high number of calls about the rain.

It noted there were bypasses at all the pumping stations in Porcupine and South Porcupine, and offered tips for people with water in their basements.

The flood warning is in effect until June 29 unless it is updated before then
