Flood Warning Update for Timmins

Timmins, ON:  The Upper Mattagami River Water Management Committee met over the long weekend and again this morning. Based on the available information a Flood Warning for Timmins continues.

Although current water levels on the Mattagami River have stabilized, a rain event is forecasted for Timmins over the next 12 to 14 hours. Should the rain materialize, and depending on accumulations, water levels could increase. As a precaution, residents in low lying areas or those prone to flooding along the Mattagami River, should take precautions to safeguard personal property.

Sand bags, sand and shovels are available at the Confederation Multi Sports Facility and at the Mountjoy arena.

The City also cautions motorists that sections of Norman St. are closed to traffic. Norman St. North is closed at the City of Timmins snow dump as well, from Lafleur Bridge north. Access to Cedar Meadows is available via Norman St South from Lafleur Bridge. Timmins Police will continue to monitor roadways that are affected and will enforce all road closures. We also ask boaters to lower their speeds and minimize wake that could potentially affect homeowners.

The Upper Mattagami River Water Management Committee will meet again tomorrow morning to assess the situation and provide updates.
