Five charged after police seize suspected cocaine, meth, ammo and more

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), the North East Region Crime Unit, the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), the North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), the North East Region Canine Unit (K9) and the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment, executed several search warrants in Kirkland Lake, Ont., and in the surrounding area.  

As a result of the police investigation, the OPP has charged five people. Police seized ammunition and drugs suspected to be cocaine, opioids, methamphetamine, and illicit cannabis.  

Gabriel Marecki, age 45, of Kirkland Lake, Ont., is charged with the following:

  •   Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

He was released on a Promise to Appear to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ont., on March 7, 2019.

Derrick Thompson, age 22, of Kirkland Lake, Ont., is charged with the following:  

  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 92(2) of the CC;
  • Possession of illicit cannabis, contrary to section 8(1)(b) of the Cannabis Act (CA);
  • Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling, contrary to section 10(2) of the CA;
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid x 2, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA); and
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

He was released on a Promise to Appear to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ont., on March 14, 2019.

Kevin Cotes-Turpin, age 34, of Fabre, Que., is charged with the following:  

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA, and
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

He was released on a Promise to Appear to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ont., on March 7, 2019.

Curtis Woollings, age 27, of Pacaud Township, Ont., is charged with the following:  

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a scheduled I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA; and
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC.

He was released on a Promise to Appear to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ont., on March 7, 2019.

Isabella Batisse, age 19, of Kirkland Lake, Ont., is charged with the following:  

  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 92(2) of the CC;
  • Possession of illicit cannabis, contrary to section 8(1)(b) of the CA;
  • Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling, contrary to sections 10(2) of the CA;
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid x2, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA); and
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

She was released on a Promise to Appear to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ont., on March 14, 2019.
