You'll have two chances to catch fireworks shows in Timmins this summer.

A group of 24 businesses have pitched in to put on the shows on Canada Day and at the Great Canadian Kayak Challenge in August.

“That’s something that’s very new for our group, but on behalf of all the sponsors we look forward to bringing Timmins two fantastic fireworks shows, and this year with some special emphasis put on the grand finale,” said Paul Woodward, the Bucket Shop Inc. vice president.

Tourism Timmins has a full day slated for Canada Day.

Manager of Tourism and Events Guy Lamarche unveilled the lineup today.

All of the action is taking place at the Mountjoy Historical Conservation Area (Participark).

The park opens to the 11 a.m., with the opening ceremonies at noon on the main stage.

A variety of performers are lined up starting at 1 p.m., including Indigenous drum and dance, Daryll and Daryll, Sabrina and the Fam Jam, Estelle and John, and Coldwater.

Stompin' Taw Connors will also be there with a tribute to his dad Stompin' Tom Connors, and Andrea Romolo will be performing too. After the fireworks, Cindy Doire is presenting Panorama with special guest Scarlett Jane.

Admission is free, and there will be free parking and free shuttle service as well.

During the day, WildExodus is offering guided sightseeing boat crusies on the Mattagami River. The cost for the pontoon is $30 and it must be booked in advance here

July 1 will also be the Mountjoy Farmers' Market's first event in their new location at the park. It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The weekly market was taken over by the Porcupine Agricultural Society last season.

This year, it's moving to the Mountjoy Historical Park, and a permanent structure is also being built.

Garnet Wilcox said interest in the market has grown since the agricultural society took it it over, and they're looking for more traffic with the changes this year.
