A golf tournament and fundraiser was held last Friday at the Hollinger Golf Club where 67 fire and emergency professionals ( along with a few invited like myself ) took part.

The weather changed during the day as teams golfed through the 18 holes but even in the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits. The course is set up so you land back at the club house half way through which was great for a break.

Peter Osterburg says that they annually donate to the Stan Fowler Fund, Legion 287, Legion 88, Red Cross, Camp Bucko Burn Camp and others. In the past they have donated to the Pet Scan Fund Sudbury.

They also host an annual charity hockey game to support a family in need of assistance due to a sick child in the community.

They try to spread the funds out as much as possible based on the need and availability of the funds.

Prizes were donated for the event by local businesses that were drawn from tickets sold throughout the day.

A boot was also passed around that raised $265 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada which will be added to the boots on September 21st during their annual Boot Drive.

It was a fantastic day and my first opportunity to golf. I was a bit intimidated at first but the professionals at the course were more than accommodating.  It was a a terrific time and I highly recommend that if you haven't tried this great sport, do what I did give it a whirl!
