Timmins Transit projects have received another boost.

Recently, three projects worth $428,600 were announced for the city's transit system. The announcement includes $142,852 from Ontario and $171,440 from the federal government, with the city's contribution being $114,308.

The cash is for live display panels, to upgrade the bus wash facility, and transit signal prioritization.

"These projects will help residents who depend on reliable transit services to get where they need to go, safely and on time. We continue to make improved transit a priority in communities in Northern Ontario and all across the province," said Laurie Scott, Ontario Minister of Intrastructure, in a news release.

Buying and installing two live display panels at the transit station downtown is a $44,000 project. The federal government's share is $17,600, with the province giving $14,665, and $11,735 coming from the city. According to the announcement, the displays remotely connect to the buses and will give riders information about inbound and outbound buses.

The cost to build a new bus washing facility is $240,000. The breakdown for that is $96,000 from the federal government, $79,992 from the province, and $64,008 from the city. The announcement says the upgrade will reduce energy consumption, and include new features to expand washing capabilities.

The pricetag to buy and install a transit signal priority system is $144,600. That includes $57,840 from the federal government, $48,195 from Ontario, and $38,565 from the city. It will improve the flow and on-time performance, and decrease buses lining up to improve efficiency, according to the announcement.

This is the second funding announcement for Timmins Transit projects this year.

In July, $2.4 million was announced for three projects. Two buses — a conventional bus along with a low-floor accessible paratransit mobility bus — are being replaced, and the Timmins Transit terminal is being renovated to improve accessibility.
