Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision Under Investigation

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON.

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON.) – Members of the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the assistance of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators and Reconstructionist continue to investigate a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles. The collision occurred on Highway 66 approximately 100 meters west of Highway 672 in Gauthier east of Kirkland Lake. The incident was reported to police at 1:30 p.m. on January 25, 2014.

The vehicles involved were a 1999 Ford van and 2009 Mack dump truck both white in colour. There were no passengers in either vehicle. The dump truck was westbound on Highway 66 and the van eastbound when for an undetermined reason the van crossed into the westbound lane and came into collision with the truck.

The driver of the van a male was fatally injured and was positively identified as Euclide GAUTHIER age 74 of Virginiatown, Ontario. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Assisting at the scene were the Kirkland Lake Fire Department and the King Lebel Volunteer fire Department. The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.
