Fatal collision near Mattice closes Highway 11

HEARST, ON - On June 17, 2018, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Hearst officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), as well as the Cochrane District Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries.

Police investigation revealed that a west bound Tractor Trailer Unit and an east bound passenger vehicle, both travelling on Highway 11, have collided. The collision occurred in Eilber Township, East of the Village of Mattice, Ontario.

The OPP have confirmed that the driver of the passenger vehicle has died.

Motorists can expect Highway 11 between Hearst, Ontario and Kapuskasing, Ontario to be closed for several hours as OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) continue the investigation. 

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and police will provide more details as they become available.
