Union Gas supports Mattagami Region Conservation Authority to promote environmental education through a $1,000 grant to support the Timmins Children’s Water Festival and $2,000 grant to support the Hersey Lake Trail Management Program.

“At Union Gas, the energy we deliver comes from nature, so we understand the importance of environmental education and conservation,” said John Davidson, utility services and construction manager, Union Gas. “That’s why we’re proud to support the important work that Mattagami Region Conservation Authority is doing in this community.”

The Timmins Children’s Water Festival is designed to educate students on water conservation and preservation. The children take part in the event exploring over 40 hands-on activities learning all about water.

The addition of a new interpretive trail at the Hersey Lake Conservation Area will provide trail users with a unique experience. Through the use of interpretive signage, the 1km trail will present themes that will enable visitors to understand more clearly the messages of the area’s history and the environment.

“This generous donation from Union Gas will help deliver the Children’s Water Festival to a growing amount of elementary students in Grades 3-4,” said Crystal Percival, communications specialist, Mattagami Region Conservation Authority. “It will also support the development of a new interpretive trail designed to introduce Hersey Lake visitors to some of the unique vegetation and wildlife that we have here in northern Ontario.”
