Driver faces charges after sailboat damages power lines on Kamiskotia Highway

The Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section has completed its investigation into a trailering mishap that resulted in a road closure during the afternoon hours of Friday, June 14.

The incident occurred on the Kamiskotia Highway where a motorist hauling a catamaran type of sailboat came into contact with hydro lines resulting in damage to the lines as well as the vessel being trailered.

The incident also resulted in the closure of the Kamiskotia Highway for a period of roughly two hours while Hydro One crews restored the power lines to full service.

The Timmins Police Service investigated the matter and has charged a 59-year-old Timmins resident under the pertinent section of the Highway Traffic Act regulating the use of over-height vehicles.

The Timmins Police Service wish to remind all motorists to be mindful of the laws that are applicable to load restrictions under the Highway Traffic Act in regards to vehicle dimensions.

These restrictions are in place to enhance public safety and to prevent incidents such as the one listed in this release from occurring.

The penalties are severe and motorists found to be in contravention of any load dimension restrictions can rightfully expect a firm response from Timmins Police Service.

Traffic safety is achieved by means of a serious partnership between law enforcement efforts by the Timmins Police Service and strict adherence by the motoring public.
