If you spot a 'dandy' pothole, go ahead and get on the horn!

The characteristically unpredictable March weather has again led to thawing in some areas, flooding in others, and the emergence of new springtime potholes.

Vehicle damage caused by hitting potholes is an all too common citizen complaint in Timmins, which led a veteran Councillor to encourage locals to be more proactive. Many residents take to posting on social media when they notice a crater, but that may not be the most effective way to have it fixed. Near the end of Monday night's meeting at city hall, Councillor Mike Doody took a moment to address the situation.

"I think everybody certainly would agree the type of weather that we have been having, that it has certainly been very tough on our roads throughout the whole city of Timmins," said Doody.

He said city crews have 'been out there, trying to do their best'.

"I don't mind saying that if you think in your area, or a road that you're driving on, that there is an extra large pothole, or its in the wrong place, I think you've got to pick up the phone, call Public Works and tell them where that pothole is. Because that's how they work," said Doody.

He spoke highly of the department's recent efforts in dealing with a myriad of issues across the city.

"I know they've been just excellent with me. I know in some cases people have called me, and I've actually asked them 'have you called public works and let them know what's going on? They've been on the go for the last couple of weeks, and I don't think there's anything wrong with picking up the phone, calling public works, and telling them where there is a dandy pothole. I think that they're going to do their darndest to get there as quickly as they can," he said.

Councillor Rick Dubeau also wanted to publicly thank public works for their recent efforts.

"We've had a lot floods, frozen drains, stuff like that. I think they've done a great job. Every time I've called, they get it resolved very quickly. So I think they deserve a great thank you," he said.
