Editor's Note: Police have provided an update saying the police presence was due to a call about "the use or presence of weapons" that they've determined had no validity.

Residents are being asked to not call 911 about the increased police presence in Schumacher.

Timmins Police says there is a noticeable police presence in the Grant Street area after an event that happened earlier today (March 22). Details on what happened were not provided.

"There is no threat to public safety. Residents are allowed to leave their residences as they see fit," said police.

"Please do not call 911 to make inquiries in regards to this matter. The Timmins Police are nearing completion of their investigative tasks."
