NEWS RELEASE

CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES

*************************
We have added a third day to our schedule; this clinic is in honour of Noah, a Timmins teenager who has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Noah has needed blood transfusions and will need more.

Please donate in honour of Noah at the St. Dominique Church Hall on Thursday, July 28 from 10:30 – 2:30.

In Honour of Noah

Noah was born with a rare illness called Schwachman-Diamond Syndrome which affects the bone marrow. In May, Noah was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia or AML.

As a result, he needs blood transfusions to stay alive.  Since May, he has had at least 7 platelet transfusions and at least 6 red blood cell transfusions. These won't be the last!!

Currently Noah is at CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) where he has already received 2 rounds of chemotherapy.

In August, he will be transferred to Sick Kids in Toronto to receive a stem cell transplant. He is one of the lucky ones who has found a near perfect match with his older brother Zakary.

As a 13-year-old, he has remained positive throughout the ordeal and is grateful for all the people who donate blood.

He looks forward to coming home again to be with his dogs, cat, family and friends.
